One of the best ways to maintain the health and beauty of your swimming pool is to regularly test your water. We recommend testing your pools water at least once a week with a reliable test kit, we recommend the Taylor K-2005 test kit. Check the pH, Chlorine, Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and Stabilizer levels to ensure that your pools water is safe and sanitary for you and your family.
What are the recommended levels for each of these elements of water chemistry and what do they mean? Here is a quick breakdown.
pH: pH measures the acidity or alkalinity of the pool water. Recommended level is between 7.2 and 7.8
Chlorine: Chlorine is a sanitizer used to kill bacteria, algae, and other contaminants. Recommended level is between 1 and 3 ppm (parts per million)
Alkalinity: Alkalinity acts as a buffer for pH, helping to prevent drastic changes. Recommended level is 80-120 ppm.
Calcium Hardness: Calcium hardness refers to the amount of dissolved calcium in the pool water. Recommended level is 200-400 ppm.
Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid) Level: Stabilizer protects chlorine from being broken down by UV rays from the sun. Recommended level is 30-50 ppm.
